Mid Summer News

Hey Everyone,

First I'd like to welcome some new addresses - I got Dad's and Ron's added, as well as Roger Singer - my friend from Boise; now living in Golden, and loving it from what I hear. Here's what's new -

Way to go redux

I wanted to give a big shout out (again) to Mrs. A (Awilda Abraham), Amy's grandmother. You'd think I'd have the forethought to snap a pic or two of her on reaching such a lofty mark, but no. Couldn't seem to get it together enough to have a camera with me. So, thanks to Alex (Mueller) (my bro in law) from whom I've borrowed the following shots.

Here she is. 100 years old, ready for the next 100.

While I'm at it, I might as well borrow a few more from Alex and give the Larson side a few shots of the Hutchinson side.

Here we have the ladies: Kari, Mrs. A, Leslie, Amy, Jen, and nieces Meghan and Makenna.

Back from the Selway

I just got back from 6 days of hiking through the Selway Wilderness with to Friends - Marty and Mark. We flew into the Moose Creek guard station, located within the Wilderness. This is where we flew into last year, only this year we walked downstream. We spent two days along this beautiful river, enduring 100 degree heat and brutal sun. We did find one of the best swimming holes imaginable and had some floaters come by and leave us 3 warm beers. Which were a real treat.

We hiked 4000 feet out of the canyon and spent four days of beating through overgrown trails and battling flies and mosquitos. Did I mention the brutal sun? One trail was so bad, I had thoughts of us being 30 miles in and in real trouble. In short - it was brutal. But - we spent 6 days wandering through most remote place around, never saw a soul, and had quite an experience. We camped by two lakes, woke up to a moose and elk herd showdown, and had some very sublime momets in the forests among the birds. Marty sent a couple of photos, but not the one of me on top of the world - must have been a bad shot. They are as follows:

There is a trail in here. We did this for miles.

Crossing Lizard Creek - Day 4

If I get some more photos I like, I'll post 'em.

Scott and Amy aren't doin' nuthin

Wondering about the title of this blog? We started the summer with plans to address out future in the decline of the American Empire. Land, we figure, is what we need. Tillable land with water and a clear title are probably what will serve us all best, so we went looking. We found some interesting things along the way - good land and water, and even a large parcel of land in town. Unfortunately - someone went and completely screwed up up a good house and we simply can't afford to fix it and live in it simultaneously. Big news eh? Aint got the Do Re Me. So - for now we're working on paying off our mortgage in 10 years and will keep looking.

No Surgery for Scott

I went in for a pre cataract check up, and it turns out that cataract surgery presents some not-insignificant complications for me because of the injury to my eye. So, I opted to not have the surgery and live with a little blurryness. I'll see a retnal specialist in November and see what he thinks. I'll keep you posted on this.

Epic Fishing

I had one of my epic fishing days a week or so ago. Two nights, one whole day - nobody around on the amazing Salmon river, and big fish all day. Amy heads to Bozeman for a few days and I'll go for an overnighter up on the Boise.
