I know it’s been a while, but I have good reasons. Mainly, I was too busy (like you’ve never heard that before). But it’s true. May was absolutely insane. I was finishing the house, which meant full days of scheduling, final details, preparing next year’s plans, etc. etc. etc. Add to that a few Sierra Club events ( I played a cow moose and an old fat bull elk for a play about wolves), an explosion of grass that needed urgent care, armed with a dying weed whacker, and the living room cabinet and you have a pretty full month. I decided to write, however, because all of these things are finished, summer has begun, and I want to make a clean break for my next entry – desde Espana.
Ready for the Realtor
Like I mentioned, the house is now officially done. I got the Certificate of Occupation Monday, after adding a landing on the back door. If I had know I needed it, I could have gotten it on Thursday, the last official day of school. How cool would that have been? Everything worked out well. Since I last wrote, the kids have set the front stone wainscot, laid 1000 sq. ft. of bamboo flooring, set the cabinets, and landscaped. May, although very busy, is really fun. After nine months of work, the project quickly comes together and the kids get a kick out of seeing the end product. Plus, the weather is usually nice.
This leads me to mention the weather. It’s June 11th and freezing. I left to fish Silver Creek last Friday, and the wind howled all Friday and Saturday. I met Amy and some folks from the Sierra Club at Craters of the Moon (for a state board meeting) and it blew, rained, and snowed the whole weekend. It was nice at times, and Amy and I had some nice hiking, but What’s up with the weather?
Anyway – here’s a few house photos.
A new living room
I also had a personal project going on, which turned out nicely I think. You all know our living room, yes? Well, I built a Fir cabinet that covers up the entrance to the bathroom. On the bathroom side, that door now opens into a cedar-lined closet. The living room now is bigger, since we don’t have to have passage to the bath. The photo can explain better than I can I’m sure. It took a while. I had to special order the fir, and finished it in an old style – oil (plus stain) and wax.

I wanted to quickly mention that I went to the RUSH concert last week. I stood in line on the first day of ticket sales and got great seats (20th row) for a friend and I. John was there too, but we didn’t see each other. The band is old, for sure, and Geddy Lee has trouble hitting the high notes, but they are still making good, new music and the show was fantastic. The have a bunch of strange animations and great lights. I didn’t know this, but I guess cameras are OK at concerts now. Everyone has one on his or her phone. Sorry though, none from me.
Spain
Like I said, we’re heading off to Spain in 6 days. I’d like to try to post something from there. I did a test packing and everything fit except the big camera. Hmmm. Have to have the big camera. I’ll see what I can do. I need to be able to re-size photos for posting, so I guess I’ll see if the on-line photoshop I touted earlier really works. I'll either write from there or wait until July.
